Best Views in Chicago: The John Hancock Building

chicago-skyline-1

Though the Willis Tower (still called the Sears Tower by many) is the tallest building in Chicago, the John Hancock Building is the real place to go for stunning views of Chicago, Lake Michigan, and on a clear day views of four states.

The Willis Tower has always been a little cumbersome for view seekers, with long lines and a movie you’re forced to watch before getting to the observation deck. And, since the Willis Tower is one of the great sights of Chicago, you won’t see this sight while you’re inside it!

Here are some advantages of going to the Hancock building:
–You CAN see the Willis Tower
–There’s a bar/lounge on the 95th floor with window seats
–The observation deck (now called 360Chicago) really does give you a 360 degree view opportunity
–The 95th floor is also a fine-dining restaurant, with an amazing weekend brunch

Conde Nast agrees that the Hancock building is the place to go in Chicago for views:

1) How to Skip Lines in 2015 – skip the Willis Tower

2) Instead, visit the Hancock building
